BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Defending National Champion the University of Southern California remains the undisputed top team in the country as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Week 4/February 13 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top 10 and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also retain top-billing in their respective rankings.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2019 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 4/February 13)

The University of Southern California, which captured the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship, retains the title of top-ranked team in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The first five positions in the Top 25 remain unchanged as USC (100 points), Stanford University (96 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (92 points), the University of California (88 points) and the University of Hawaii (84 points) retain their previous spots. 

The remainder of the Top 10 experiences significant shifts as the University of Michigan (77 points) moves within striking distance of a Top Five position by rising two berths to take over at No. 6.  The University of California-Irvine (77 points) slips one slot to No. 7, while Arizona State University (71 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (68 points) rise and fall to rate at No. 8 and 9, respectively.  University of the Pacific (66 points) wraps-up the Top 10 in the final spot for another week.

At No. 11-to-15, the University of California-Davis (66 points) hangs on at No. 11 with San Jose State University (52 points) and Loyola Marymount University (52 points) entering into a tie at No. 12.  Princeton University (48 points) and Fresno State University (45 points) hold tight at No. 14 and 15 for another week.

Harvard University (38 points) inches up to No. 16 with Long Beach State University (33 points) and the University of California-San Diego (20 points) tying at No. 17. 

Wagner College (28 points), Indiana University (27 points), California State University-Northridge (16 points), Bucknell University (14 points), Marist College (13 points), California Baptist University (13 points) and San Diego State University (6 points) complete the Top 25 at No. 19-to-25.

2019 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 4/February 13)

Another week, another No. 1 ranking for Pomona-Pitzer Colleges as the team continues to hold the top spot in the Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points) return to rating as a unanimous No. 1 selection as the majority of the poll remains unchanged from last week.

California Lutheran University (95 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (90 points), Whittier College (83 points) and Chapman University (80 points) retain the No. 2-to-5 positions, while the University of La Verne (72 points) rises to No. 6.

The University of Redlands (70 points), Macalester College (64 points), Occidental College (36 points) rate at No. 7-to-9 with Monmouth College (23 points) ascending into a tie with Connecticut College (23 points) for the final slot in the Top 10.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 (Week 4/February 13)

Change comes at No. 2 as Harvard University (93 points) moves in front of Princeton University (90 points).

Bucknell University (85 points), Brown University (81 points), George Washington University (76 points), Saint Francis University (70 points), Macalester College (65 points), Connecticut College (47 points) and Carthage College (45 points) complete the rankings.

2019 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 4/February 13)

Macalester College, which captured the 2017 and 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Championships, retains its rating at No. 1 in the CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Macalester (100 points), which joined Grove City College (2010-2012) and Connecticut College (2013-2016) as the sole teams to ever claim the CWPA Division III league crown, remains a unanimous top selection this week.

The remainder of the Top Five stays the same as Connecticut  (90 points), Carthage College (73 points), Washington & Jefferson College (69 points) and Monmouth College (36 points) complete the rankings.
