2021 Men’s Collegiate Club Southwest Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Men’s Collegiate Club Southwest Division schedule.
Comprised of Arizona State University, San Diego State University, the University of Arizona, the University of California-Irvine, the University of San Diego and the University of Southern California, the Southwest Division will contest its 20th season as Arizona (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009), the University of Colorado (1998, 2001), Arizona State (2008, 2010), San Diego State (2016, 2017) and the University of California-San Diego (2018, 2019) have combined to claim the previous 19 titles. The 2020 season was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the Southwest Division did not compete in 2011.
Competition begins on Saturday-Sunday, October 9-10, at Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., with 12 games prior to continuing at UC-Irvine in Irvine, Calif., with 12 games on Saturday-Sunday, October 16-17.
The championship season features two events as the No. 4, 5 and 6 teams from the Southwest Division will take on the No. 5 6, 7 and 8 teams from the Pacific Coast Division in an 11-game “B” Championship on Saturday-Sunday, October 23-24, at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
A week later, the top three teams from the Southwest compete at Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. against the Pacific Coast Division’s top four in the 11-game “A” Championship.
The top finishing Southwest and Pacific Coast Division teams at the Pacific Coast/Southwest “A” Championship earn automatic berths to the 2021 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship slated to be hosted by the University of Alabama at the Huntsville Aquatic Center in Huntsville, Ala., on Friday-Sunday, November 12-14. In addition, the team which finishes in the middle of the Southwest and Pacific Coast divisions earn the opportunity to compete in the newly established National Invitational on Friday-Sunday, December 3-5, at a site to be determined against teams that claimed the top spot in the lower half of their divisions.
