BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s Water Polo/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) champion Stanford University concludes the year at No. 1 as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 18/May 17/Final Women’s Varsity National Top 25 for the 2023 season.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season.

2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 18/May 17/Final)

Stanford University completes the year at No. 1 in the 2023 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Week 18/May 17/Final Poll.

Stanford (100 points) – which defeated Biola University (23-0 W), the University of California-Los Angeles (14-9 W) and the University of Southern California (11-9 W) last weekend at the University of the Pacific during the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association Championship – is a unanimous top selection to wrap-up the 2023 campaign.  National Championship runner-up USC (96 points) completes the season at No. 2, while UCLA (91 points) breaks out of a tie at No. 3 from last week to acquire sole possession of the spot heading into the summer.

The University of California-Irvine (84 points) and Princeton University (84 points) fall and rise into a tie at No. 4.  The Anteaters fell to UCLA by a 14-12 score in the quarterfinals, while the Tigers downed California (11-9 W) in the quarterfinals prior to taking a setback (18-8 L) against USC in the semifinals.  Princeton’s finish is the highest mark for an East Coast institution since the University of Michigan placed fourth following the 2016 season.

The University of Hawaii (82 points), California (77 points), Long Beach State University (72 points), Fresno State University (68 points) and the University of California-San Diego (62 points) complete the Top 10.

The University of California-Davis (60 points) stays at No. 11, while Pacific (52 points) and Harvard University (52 points) are tied at No. 12.

The University of California-Santa Barbara (48 points) and Michigan (48 points) conclude the year deadlocked at No. 14 with Arizona State University (43 points), Indiana University (38 points), Loyola Marymount University (33 points) and San Jose State University (25 points) retaining the No. 16-to-19 positions, respectively.

Long Island University (21 points) and Wagner College (21 points) are tied at No. 20 with Brown University (11 points), California State University-Northridge (11 points) and San Diego State University (11 points) equals at No. 22.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (10 points) completes the Top 24 in the final spot.
