Collegiate Water Polo Association Releases Revised 2017 Women’s Collegiate Club Northwest Division Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases a revised 2017 Women’s National Collegiate Club Northwest Division schedule of games.

Due to Washington State University withdrawing from full participation during the course of the season, the Northwest Division retracts to include Oregon State University, Portland State University, the University of Oregon “A”, the University of Oregon “B”, the University of Washington “A”, Western Washington University and newcomers the University of Oregon “C” and the University of Washington “B” as the eight remaining teams will compete in two regular season tournaments prior to the division championship event on Saturday-Sunday, April 8-9, at Rogers High School in Puyallup, Wash.

Competition begins on Saturday-Sunday, February 25-26, as Oregon State hosts a 16-game tournament at the Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis, Ore.

The regular season will conclude a week later as Washington State hosts an 18-contest event in Pullman, Wash. on Saturday-Sunday, March 4-5.  Washington State will compete in four exhibition games during the course of the weekend.

The regular season competition will set the field for the division championship to decide which program advances to the 16-team National Collegiate Club Championship slated for Friday-Sunday, May 5-7, at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Regular season division Standings will be determined by won/loss percentage instead of record since four teams will play an exhibition match against WSU and four teams will play an opponent twice during the season. This means that four teams will have eight league games while the other four will play eight games but only seven will count towards standings.

In the history of the division, Oregon has been the dominant program in the division thanks to capturing eight consecutive championships (2005-to-2012) and 11-of-19 crowns (2002, 2005-to-2012, 2014, 2015) since the division began in 1998.  Overall, only four teams have taken home a Northwest Division title as Portland State (2013), Washington (1998-to-2001, 2003, 2016) and former club program Simon Fraser University (2004) join Oregon with championship plaques.  In addition, five programs have reached the division title game as Oregon (2001, 2002, 2005-to-2016), Portland State (2013-to-2015), Washington (1998-to-2009, 2016), Simon Fraser (1998, 1999, 2003, 2004) and Oregon State (2000, 2010-to-2012) have combined for the past championship game berths.
