IRVINE, Calif. — Concordia University Irvine seeks graduate assistant water polo coaches.

A graduate assistant men’s water polo coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in all facets of a successful intercollegiate water polo program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletics department. These include, however, are not limited to recruitment, academic monitoring, instruction and the spiritual development of all student-athletes. All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletics department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • To assist the head coach in all components of successful/winning water polo program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletics department.
  • Read and follow all provisions as outlined by the policies and procedures manual of the intercollegiate athletics department. Know institutional, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations to ensure compliance with departmental, university, conference and national policies. Recruit student-athletes in accordance with university, department, and conference requirements and policies. Ensure student-athletes are positive Christian representatives of the university mission at all times. Promote unity within the athletics department by working in corporation together and by supporting all university personnel.
  • To assist the head coach in establishing an environment in which student-athletes develop as well as grow spiritually, academically, socially, and athletically.
  • Maintain the development and welfare of the student-athlete as the number one priority of the program. Ensure academic success, focusing on classroom achievement and graduation requirements. Provide leadership that promotes positive Christian attitudes and good sportsmanship with all student-athletes. Work with student-athletes in a fair, understanding, tolerant, sympathetic, and patient manner.
  • To assist the head coach in developing, establishing, and maintaining a successful/winning water polo program within the framework of the mission of the university and the intercollegiate athletics department.
  • Develop teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, courtesy, fair play, academic excellence and strict adherence to rules of training and conduct. Demonstrate teaching excellence. Conduct yourself in all facets of your work according to the highest standards of the profession and university expectations at all times.
  • Perform all other duties and/or responsibilities as needed and/or as assigned by the head coach, athletics director, associate athletics director and/or university administration.
  • Supervise home events.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes-“A Concordia Fit” Fundraising events.
  • Community service.
  • Team travel – driving van’s to away games.
  • Supervise weight training.
  • Training Schedule

SCHEDULE:

  • Fall Season
    • Monday Wednesday Friday 12:30-3:00pm
    • Tuesday Thursday 6:00-8:30am
    • Weights on CUI campus 9:30-10:30am or 10:30-11:30am
    • Weekend games
  • Spring Off Season
    • Monday Wednesday Friday 6:00-8:00am
    • Weights on CUI campus 9:30-10:30am or 10:30-11:30am
