BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Connecticut College men’s and women’s water polo will both be in action on Saturday, March 20, at home in New London, Conn., as the men’s team hosts Iona College at 10:30 a.m. prior to the women’s team taking on Utica College at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
In men’s competition, the Camels will hit the road for a 7:00 p.m. game at Iona in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Friday, March 19, prior to returning to the Constitution State for a 10:30 a.m. home game on Saturday, March 20, versus the Gaels. The March 20 game is a change from the previously announced Noon contest on Sunday, March 21, as COVID-19 testing restrictions require Connecticut to compete on back-to-back days.
The Camels’ women’s team will also be in action on Saturday, March 20, for potentially the only time during the 2021 season as Connecticut hosts Utica at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
Historically, the game appears to mark the first time a program will compete in men’s and women’s competition at home on the same day since the start of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women’s competition in 2000. Normally, the men’s varsity season is concluded in early December – nearly a month and a half prior to the commencement of women’s competition. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic forcing men’s action into the Winter – combined with Iona and Connecticut competing following the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship and on the same weekend as the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship at the University of Southern California – the men’s and women’s season have overlapped since January.
