BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The CWPA Remote interview series continues as St. Francis College Brooklyn men’s head coach Bora Dimitrov talks with Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Director of Communications Ed Haas.

Appointed head coach in August 2017 at the age of 24 to become the youngest head coach in the ranks of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s varsity water polo at the time, Dimitrov was an outstanding performer in his two years (2014-15) as a Terrier after transferring from Diablo Valley College.

An assistant coach on the staff of prior SFC head coach Igor Zagoruiko during the 2016 season and a native of Serbia, Dimitrov tallied 94 goals and four assists with 68 drawn kickouts during the 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Terriers.  As a senior in 2015, he posted 51 goals, four assists and 33 drawn kickouts following an inaugural season (2014) in which he racked up 43 goals, 18 steals and 35 drawn kickouts.

A 2015 CWPA Northern Division All-Conference First Team selection and CWPA Eastern Championship All-Tournament Second Team honoree, he was recognized with All-America Honorable Mention status in 2015 by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

Following his season as an assistant coach, Dimitrov assumed the head coaching role at SFC and guided the Terriers to a 13-14 mark, including an 8-4 record in the inaugural season of NWPC competition to earn second place during the regular season and fourth place at the league championship.  In his second at the helm of the Terriers, Dimitov collected NWPC Coach of the Year honors for helping the program repeat as the regular season runner-up in the league and earn a third place finish at the NWPC Championship as part of a 9-15 season, including an 8-4 record in conference play.

Last season, St. Francis Brooklyn finished fourth in the regular season and at the NWPC Championship to cap off a 19-14 record with a 6-7 mark in league action.  It marked the first winning record for SFC since Dimitrov’s senior season in 2015 when the squad finished 17-13.  Further, it marked the most wins by the Terriers’ program since a 23-12 CWPA Eastern Championship campaign in 2013.
