PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Brown University water polo head coach Felix Mercado has announced the hiring of Petar Momcilovic as the program’s new assistant coach.

Momcilovic will serve as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs and joins the Bears after having spent last season as the assistant coach for the men’s and women’s programs at Long Island University.

“I’m very excited to add Petar Momcilovic to our coaching staff,” said Mercado. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with working with individual athletes on their fundamentals and tactics. He has worked as a head coach and assistant coach at the collegiate level and will hit the ground running. He will also be a great addition to us on the operations side and will also be instrumental with recruiting this summer.”

Last season at LIU, Momcilovic led the women’s program to a 22-7 overall record and 10-2 record in conference play.

Prior to LIU, Momcilovic served as the head coach for broth programs at Mercyhurst University during the 2022-23 season. Momcilovic was on the staff at Mercyhurst from 2018-20 as a graduate assistant.

Momcilovic began coaching in his hometown of London, United Kingdom, in 2011, and has coached at every level from the U12 age group to international competition. Before Mercyhurst, he was the Head Men’s Water Polo Coach for Oxford University, where he led the team to their highest British University and College Sports conference finish (third place) and won the Southern BUCS for the first time.

Momcilovic also has coaching experience with USA Water Polo previously serving as the Development Coach for the Southeast Zone Girls Development and Youth Teams and as a volunteer cadet coach for the Olympic Development Program in the Great Lakes Zone.
