BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Did you know that the 1988 and 1989 University of Arkansas-Little Rock men’s water polo teams were inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2022?
The team achieved the highest finish of any team in Little Rock athletics history at a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
The team a pair of NCAA Championship top eight appearances (1988 & 1989) by claiming Seventh Place in 1988 prior to notching an Eighth Place mark in 1989.
The squads produced a pair of All-America selection (Simon Gould, Antonio Meirelles) to go along with a First Place mark at the 1989 Eastern Championships at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.after finishing as the runner-up in 1988 at Brown University in Providence, R.I.
In 1988 at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach, California, Little Rock dropped contests against the University of California (17-6 L) and Long Beach State University (13-10 L) prior to turning back Navy (10-9 OT W) to pick up a Seventh Place mark.
In 1989 at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Trojans fell to the University of California-Irvine (13-6 L), the University of California-San Diego (10-9 L) and Brown (8-6 L) to claim Eighth Place in an eight team field.
