BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former University of Michigan women’s water polo athlete Sofie Pontre ’21 M ’22 (Perth, Western Australia/Santa Maria College) was named to the Australia roster for the 2023 World Aquatics World Championships set for Saturday-Friday, July 15-29 in Fukuoka, Japan.
One of three former Wolverines on the Australia roster as Pontre joins single season competitors Amy Ridge (2016) and Abby Andrews (2019), the five-year competitor for the Maize & Blue racked up 87 goals, 50 assists, 137 points, 67 drawn exclusions, 118 steals and 36 field blocks in 150 games during the 2018-2022 seasons.
A two-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America honoree with Second (2020) and Honorable Mention (2021) status, she helped Michigan capture the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. The 2020 season was lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
