ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The George Washington University men’s water polo wrapped its opening weekend at the United States Naval Academy’s Navy Open by falling to No. 3 the University of California, 22-10, at Lejeune Hall.
GW hung tough versus the Golden Bears as the Buff & Blue tied it at two-all via a goal by Nick Schroeder midway through the opening quarter. Trailing by a pair after eight minutes of action, the Colonials pulled to 13-10 on Schroeder’s score with 3:30 left in the third quarter before Cal pulled away.
Schroeder matched a career high with four goals to finish the weekend with a team-high eight scores.
Andras Levai notched two goals and three assists, while first-year Andrija Sekulic found the net twice to cap a productive opening weekend. Viktor Jovanovic scored a goal and boosted the offense by drawing a team-high four ejections.
