UTICA, N.Y. — The Grove City College women’s water polo team split two Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III-East Region games at Utica University. The Wolverines opened the day with a 17-14 victory over Penn State Behrend prior to taking a 22-12 setback against Connecticut College.
Grove City outscored Behrend, 5-2, in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Four Grove City players scored multiple goals, led by a season-best five goals from freshman Kiley Sill (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne).
Senior Reese Trauger (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) and sophomore Kamryn Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) each fired in four goals, while senior Tia Kannel (York, Pa./Central York) scored three times. Sophomore Riley McCullough (Spring, Texas/Oak Ridge) also scored.
Kannel tallied a career-high six assists while Kerr assisted four goals. McCullough and Trauger both recorded assists. Trauger led the defense with three steals and two blocks.
In goal, freshman Lea Steen (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) stopped 10 shots.
In the late game, Grove City led Connecticut College 7-5 after one quarter but the Camels pulled ahead by halftime, 9-8.
Trauger led the Wolverines with five goals while Kannel and McCullough each scored twice. Sill and junior Clarie Lochstet (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) also dented the twine.
Kannel, Kerr, McCullough and Trauger all had two assists.
Steen led the defense with five steals and recorded a season-high 15 saves for Grove City.
