2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team (PDF)
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Abby Jank (Sr., Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) of Grove City College has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-District IV At-Large Team. She now moves on to the national ballot where first, second and third team Academic All-America honorees will be announced later this month.
A 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team selection, Jank concluded her career as a four-year letterwinner in both swimming and diving and water polo. In swimming, she is a two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America after earning All-America honors at the NCAA Championships in the 800 free relay as a freshman and as a sophomore.
She is also four-time First Team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) honoree in swimming and diving. Last February, she helped Grove City win its ninth straight conference title by competing on the Wolverines’ victorious 200 free and 400 medley relays. She also finished as conference runner-up in the 200 free and in third place in the 100 free.
Jank ranks fourth all-time at Grove City in the 100 free (52.73) and fifth in the 200 free (1:53.73).
In water polo, Jank started all four seasons for the Wolverines. This year, she earned Second Team All-Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III honors as well as CWPA Division III Championship All-Tournament Second Team laurels. Jank scored 25 goals this year and added 11 assists. She led the team with 80 steals and 13 blocks.
Jank has earned a 3.90 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in elementary education. She earned Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors twice as well as CWPA Scholar-Athlete distinction. Jank has also been named to the Dean’s List and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll.
The 2016-17 academic year marks the sixth year that CoSIDA has based its Academic All-America program on individual divisions within college athletics. Currently, CoSIDA honors student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, along with a “College” division that includes NAIA institutions and junior colleges.
Grove City is part of District IV for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. District IV includes all of the NCAA Division III programs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To be nominated for the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
The at-large program includes athletes from the following sports: fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.
Jank is among four women’s water polo players named to a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team as she joins Maggie Steffens of Stanford University (Division I), Lauren Boyer of the University of California-San Diego (Division II), Emily Fong of Chapman University (Division III). Maud Koopman of Arizona State University (Division I) earned Second Team notice as a total of five women’s players earned a spot on one of CoSIDA’s Academic All-District squads.
