MGoBlue.com Breakthrough Athletes Video

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship Most Valuable Player Julia Sellers (Jr., Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) capped off a breakout season by being recognized as the 2018 MGoBlue.com Female Breakthrough Athlete award.

Following a season in which she led Michigan to the program’s third consecutive CWPA Championship, the award finishes off a third-year campaign in which she ranked among the best players in the nation.

A 2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Honorable Mention All-America selection, Sellers was named to the CWPA All-Conference First Team prior to registering CWPA Championship First Team and MVP accolades for notching six goals, two assists and seven steals in three games. Her team’s co-Most Valuable Offensive Player in 2018, she posted her inaugural 100-point season with 81 goals, 33 assists, 46 steals and 46-of-73 (.630) sprints won in 41 games. 

She scored 23 goals in conference play to average 2.88 goals per game and posted 14 hat-tricks, including five of the Wolverines’ eight conference games.

For her career with the Maize & Blue, Sellers has 161 goals and 81 assists for 242 points to accompany 52 drawn exclusions, 101 steals and 15 field blocks in 116 games.
