BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Luke Waechter (Sr., Penllyn, Pa./Wissahickon/Boston University) tallied nine goals with a pair of assists, four exclusions drawn, two steals and a field block during a 1-2 weekend for the La Salle University Explorers to earn a share of the October 14 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player of the Week award. He shares the honor with Matthew Haygood (So., Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) of McKendree University and becomes the inaugural La Salle athlete to earn a Player of the Week award from the league office.
Sandwiched between a 16-7 loss at No. 15-ranked George Washington University on Friday, October 11, and a 12-11 defeat at Division III No. 9 Johns Hopkins University during the evening of Saturday, October 12, Waechter made his mark by scoring a career-high six goals to power the Explorers to a 10-8 victory at the United States Naval Academy in La Salle’s first game on October 12. The win marked the Explorers first over a Division I opponent in the history of the program.
