BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Cara Mullery (Fr., Palmetto Bay, Fla./MAST Academy) of Division III No. 10-ranked Macalester College registered 14 goals in a 2-4 weekend for the Scots on the West Coast to earn notice as the March 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Player and Rookie of the Week.
Mullery had at least one goal in all six matches, including three apiece at Division III No. 7 University of Redlands (8-5 L) on March 15 and March 16 at Division III No. 5 California Lutheran University (10-7 L). She scored a goal in a 6-5 victory over Connecticut College during a neutral site Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league game hosted by Cal Lutheran on March 16 and found the net twice in an 18-8 win at the California Institute of Technology on March 18. Mullery also had a four-goal performance at Division III No. 8 Occidental College (12-8 L) on March 18 and chipped in a solo marker in a 9-2 loss to Division III No. 4 Chapman University on March 17.
In her first collegiate season, Mullery is having an immediate impact, leading the team in goals with 24 and points with 31. Her seven assists rank third on the team. She is the second Scot to be chosen CWPA Player and Rookie of the Week this season, as fellow first year Oriana Galasso (Gresham, Ore./Barlow) received the honors on March 6.
