ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend Department of Athletics is proud to announce the selection of nine former student-athletes for enshrinement into the Athletic Hall of Fame this upcoming fall.

The nine individuals will be formally inducted in the College’s Reed Union Building in McGarvey Commons on Saturday, October 5. The class includes Catie Bertges ’14 (women’s cross country/track & field), Dante DeSantis ’14 (baseball), Chelsea Magnusen ’14 (women’s volleyball), Rachel (Mueller) Palcic ’14 (women’s soccer), Kate (Spade) Flynn ’14 (women’s cross country/track & field), MaryEllen (Spooner) Cottle ’13 (women’s swimming/water polo), Sam Vasy ’14 (women’s soccer), Eric Vunovic ’14 (men’s soccer) and Chad Zurat ’14 (baseball).

In addition, the 25-year anniversary AMCC Championship teams will be honored including women’s basketball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, softball and women’s tennis.

A native of Springfield, Virginia, and a graduate of West Springfield High School, Cottle was a dynamic two-sport athlete, competing in water polo and swimming for Behrend from 2009-13. She was a four-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America selection and two-time Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III All-Conference Second Team pick in water polo.

Cottle registered 208 steals, 146 goals, 110 drawn kickouts and dished out 45 assists during her water polo career. In swimming, she was a 17-time Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Champion and First Team All-Conference honoree. She broke five records during her career and still holds the 400 medley relay record time. She finished her career being named the Behrend Female Athlete of the Year in 2013.
