BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Our new segment “Meet the Staff” is designed to allow the water polo community to learn more about who comprises the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league staff.  The third segment features Director of Communications Ed Haas who discusses his involvement with the sport and role in the league structure. Keep checking back weekly as we feature the league staff over the next several weeks.

Appointed Director of Communications in July 2006, Haas is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective and creative communications program, including: designing, writing, and editing media guides, press releases and other promotional materials; coordinating the national varsity, club, Division III and CWPA polls; creating and maintaining the organization’s web pages; and assisting at CWPA events.

In addition to his duties with the CWPA, he also serves as Vice Chairman of West Sadsbury Township in Chester County (Pa.) and as Vice Chairman of the Keystone Valley Fire District which oversees fire protection in the western portion of Chester County.

He came to the CWPA from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. Named the institution’s Director of Sports Information in July 2000 and promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in May 2001, he was responsible for publicizing the efforts of the Diplomats’ student-athletes in 26 varsity intercollegiate sports.  During his tenure, the Diplomats achieved unprecedented notice on the regional and national levels with stories in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today and Los Angeles Times, among other national publications.

Prior to his time at F&M, he was assistant athletic director and sports information director at Alvernia College during the 1999-2000 academic year.

In addition, Haas was a graduate assistant sports information director at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and interned at the Lowes Home Improvement Motor Speedway (now Charlotte Motor Speedway) in Charlotte, N.C., and with the Harrisburg Heat professional indoor soccer team.

A 1998 graduate of DeSales University with bachelor of science degrees in sport management and marketing, Haas went on to earn a master’s degree in education/sport management from East Stroudsburg in 2000.
