BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Hall of Fame coach/former Johns Hopkins University head coach/CWPA Official Ted Bresnahan helped lead the combined Saint Andrew’s Aquatics Water Polo/Wolverines 18U boys’ team to the Powerade Tournament title at the San Juan Natatorium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Saint Andrew’s finished 5-0 during the three-day event which occurred on Friday-Sunday, August 28-30.
Bresnahan was joined on the coaching staff by former Wagner College athlete/Saint Andrew’s water polo head coach Tristan O’Connell, former McKendree University athlete Zach Callejas and two-time Cuban Olympian Oriel Dominguez, Marco Barrera and Matt Munford.
The team captured the title on August 30 via a 12-10 title game defeat of Loyola of Puerto Rico – a club team with five members of the 18 under Puerto Rico National Team on its roster.
The game started out with a strike by sophomore Pedro Galati, but Loyola struck back starting a seesaw game. Damjan Roncevic put away a pair to stake the Americans to a two-score lead entering halftime. The second half started the seesaw battle again until Jacob Perez put his team up by a marker as the squad held on for the crown.
Lucas Levy claimed Player of the Game recognition by tallying five goals – including a pair in the final minutes to seal the championship.
