BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) maintains a record book for the organization’s women’s water polo championship that details all the pertinent information for the National Championship.

Detailing the year-by-year results of the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship, the publication includes information on each year’s All-Tournament Team, scoring leaders, tournament and individual game records and program win-loss records dating back to the inaugural NCAA Championship in 2001.

Some factoids:

  • Five teams that have played at the NCAA Championship hold winning records: Stanford University (42-11), University of California-Los Angeles (38-11), University of Southern California (33-13), Arizona State University (4-2) and the University of California-Davis (3-1).
  • Stanford has appeared in the most NCAA Championship tournament games with 53.  UCLA (49), USC (46), Loyola Marymount University (23), the University of Michigan (20), the University of California-San Diego (19), the University of California (18), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (17), the University of Hawaii (16) and the University of California-Irvine (15) complete the Top 10.
  • Three teams have won the NCAA Championship (UCLA – 7; Stanford – 7; USC – 4) during the period of 2001-to-2019.
  • Five teams have finished in Second Place (Stanford – 7; USC – 5; UCLA – 4; California – 1; Loyola Marymount – 1).
  • Five teams have finished in Third Place (USC – 4; Stanford – 4; UCLA – 4; Loyola Marymount – 3; California – 1).
  • 11 teams have finished in Fourth Place (Hawaii – 4; California – 2; Michigan – 2; University of the Pacific – 2; Brown University – 1; Hartwick College – 1; Indiana University – 1; Loyola Marymount – 1; San Diego State University – 1; USC – 1; UC-Irvine – 1).
  • Former Princeton University and current United States National Team goalie Ashleigh Johnson holds the NCAA Championship single game (22 vs. UC-Irvine, 2015), tournament saves per game (16.6, 50 in three games, 2015) and tournament (50 – 18 vs. Stanford, 10 vs. Hawaii, 22 vs. UC-Irvine, 2015) records.
  • The highest scoring game in NCAA Championship history occurred in 2007 when Stanford defeated Wagner College, 25-7.
  • The most goals scored in an NCAA Championship game occurred twice as USC defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (27-2 W, 2006) and Pomona-Pitzer (27-1, 2013).
