IRVINE, Calif. — No. 12-ranked Hartwick College fell to No. 3 University of Southern California, 21-9, prior to suffering a 12-8 setback against No. 12 the University of California-Irvine.

In the first game, the Trojans outscored the Hawks 10-2 in the first quarter and held a 14-5 lead by halftime.

Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary/Rudas) led the Hawks in scoring with four goals against the Trojans. Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia/Elk Island School), Charlotte Cottle (Sydney, Australia/Presbyterian Ladies College), L.J. Edwards (Encinitas, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), Becca Lelles (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City) and Natalie May (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) each scored lone goals.

Hannah Edwards (Encinitas, Calif/Cathedral Catholic) had four saves in goal and Josette Santos (Huntington Beach, Calif./ Edison) had two against the Trojans.

In the second game, Hartwick grabbed a 4-3 lead by halftime against the Anteaters. In the third quarter, UC-Irvine outscored the Hawks 6-1 to take a four goal lead. The frame proved decisive in the game as the Hawks’ three goals in the fourth quarter were matched by the Anteaters as Irvine held on for a 12-8 win.

Kotanchyan led the Hawks in scoring in the second game with three goals and two assists. L.J. Edwards scored twice against the Anteaters, while Lauren Brennan (Canberra, Australia/St. Clares College), Tori Wilson (Kitchener, Ontario/Grand River Collegiate Institute) and Polak tallied lone goals.

Santos posted nine saves in goal against the Anteaters.
