VILLANOVA, Pa. — The No. 12-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team rallied to take down host/No. 25 Villanova University, 14-9, at the Villanova Swim Complex.
Trailing by two, Ava Houlahan recorded a goal at the buzzer to cut the Tigers’ deficit in half after eight minutes.
After the home team made it 3-1, Princeton ripped off three straight from Shanna Davidson, Houlahan and Emese Batizi before Villanova got one back prior to halftime for a four-all tie.
Princeton began the third quarter with the first two goals and ended the frame with two consecutive tallies, finishing off a six-goal to take and expand the its lead to 10-6.
Villanova started the final eight minutes with a goal, but Princeton put the contest away with shots from Olivia Krotts and Ally Lurie to go up 12-7 with 4:47 left in regulation.
Houlahan led the Tigers with a hat trick and four helpers while Davidson, Didi Evans, Batizi and Vivian Golub each accounted for two goals in the win. Lurie, Krotts and Kendall Wyer struck for solo scores with Lurie (two), Hadely Harbilas, Evans, Batizi, Charlotte Riches and Davidson dishing out assists.
Goalkeeper Lindsey Lucas stopped 10 shots to claim the win in cage.
