LEWISBURG, Pa. — The No. 12-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team collected two wins to begin Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) play as the Tigers tackled Mercyhurst University, 17-3, and host Bucknell University, 17-7, at Kinney Natatorium.

Against Mercyurst, the Lakers’ Alex Corrao scored to tie the game at three-all with 6:06 to go in the first half.

However, the Tigers’ tightened up on defense and bared their claws on offense to blank the Lakers over the final 22:06 of game action.  

Princeton ripped off four straight tallies to go up 7-3 by halftime and recorded a 10-0 shutout in the second half.

Didi Evans led the Tigers with five goals, while Kendall Wyer and Olivia Krotts notched pairs.  Abby Folk, Margaret Brandin, Charlotte Riches, Katie McCullough, Ava Houlahan, Hadley Harbilas, Emese Batizi and Shanna Davidson sent home solo strikes.

Taking on the host Bison, a goal by Wyer with 13 seconds to go in the first quarter put Princeton ahead by a 4-3 count.

The Tigers did not give up a goal in the second stanza, running out six consecutive tallies to go up, 10-3, by halftime. The Bison never threatened the rest of the way.

Evans and Vivian Golub each had five goals, while Davidson also had a trick in the win. Krotts (two), Wyer and Fok accounted for the remainder of Princeton’s offense.
