PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 13-ranked Princeton University Tigers protected their den by taking down No. 18 Harvard University, 11-4, in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) league competition prior to claiming a 17-8 take down of St. Francis College Brooklyn on the second day of the 2023 Princeton Invitational hosted at DeNunzio Pool.

Facing longtime nemesis Harvard in the Tigers’ opening game of the day, Princeton held held the Crimson without a goal for the first 20:17 of the game, running off six consecutive goals. The home squad was not threatened as it scored back-to-back goals to counter the two-tally Harvard run in the second quarter and put the game away.

Jovana Sekulic scored four times, while Kate Mallery deposited a pair. Rachael Carver, Genevieve Fraipont, Annie Robinson and Laura Larkin each scored once in support of a 13 save performance by goalkeeper Lindsey Lucas.

Taking on the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn, head coach Derek Ellingson‘s squad began with five of the first six goals and eventually led 8-3 at halftime. The Tigers never let the Terriers in the contest, scoring the first two tallies of the second half and eventually led by 10 before settling for a nine-goal victory.

Meera Burghardt (four), Kayla Yelensky (three), Kaila Carroll (two), Sekulic (two) and Fraipoint (two) combined for 13 of Princeton’s 17 goals, while Robinson, Shanna Davidson, Larkin and Ava Houlahan chipped in solo markers.

Lucas stopped 13 shots to pick up her second win of the day and help the Tigers improve their season record to 9-1 overall.
