REDLANDS, Calif. — No. 19-ranked Fordham University began a trip to the West Coast by racking up a 16-9 victory over host/Division III No. 6 University of Redlands.
With the score knotted at four at halftime, Fordham used a four-goal outburst to go up by a score of 8-5 by the end of the third quarter. Tristen Knoflick, Magnus Sims and Jake Miller-Tolt scored three straight goals to start the period, before Sims popped in his second of the quarter with four seconds remaining.
The Rams then closed out the win with a three-goal fourth quarter with Sims, Ian Watson and Cameron Shewchuck scoring for the Rams.
For Fordham, Sims had a match-high four goals to go with two steals, while Miller-Tolt had a goal, two assists, and six steals. Cole Donnelly added two assists and two steals with Knoflick having a goal, an assist, and two steals. Other goal scorers for the Rams included Phillip Wang, Diego Delgado and August Weyandt. In net, Alex Jahns recorded eight saves and a steal.
The Rams wrapped up the day by downing Mt. San Antonio College, 18-9, in a non-National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) contest.
Fordham led from the get-go, taking a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, and then following with five goals each in the next three quarters.
For Fordham, George Maltby had a career day with four goals, four assists, and three steals, while Weyandt and Massimiliano Mirarchi each had three goals. Will Smoot and Samuel Varshisky added two goals apiece, with Miller-Tolt, Wang, Yuki Saito and Sam Wheeler each having one goal. In net, Patrick Coffey made 12 stops for the Rams.
