TUCSON, Arizona — Jack Shear (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Hayden Roletter (Newport Beach, Calif.) both posted hat-tricks as No. 20-ranked/host/Southwest Division Third Place finisher the University of Arizona used a 5-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter to defeat No. 14/New York Division Champion the United States Military Academy, 14-11, in the consolation round of the 2018 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship at Arizona.

Trailing 9-8 with 5:32 remaining in the third quarter, Arizona pulled away from Army by outscoring the Cadets 5-0 over the remainder of the frame to grab a 13-9 leading entering the fourth quarter   Army was unable to launch a counter-attack of note over the final seven minutes of competition as the team pulled no closer than 13-10 before the Wildcats slashed their foe with a pair of goals.

For Arizona, which earns a berth to face No. 9/Florida Division Champion the University of Florida at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, with a spot in the Ninth Place game on the line, the trio of Gus Kelly (Palm Springs, Calif.), Mohammad Alboloush (Kuwait) and Richard Pimentel (Torrance, Calif.) each posted hat-tricks, while Jake Wait (Reno, Nev.) and David Miller (Irvine, Calif.) chipped in solo markers. Goalie Jack Garcia (Laguna Beach, Calif.) earned the win with four saves.

On the other end of the tank, Patrick Cowley (Sr., Huntersville, N.C.) (four) and Leonid Milman (Sr., Shoreline, Wash.) (three) both notched hat-tricks for Army with Aaron Chough (Jr., Cerritos, Calif.) recording a pair of goals.  Matthew Kim (Sr., San Francisco, Calif.) and Christopher Onorato (Jr., Houston, Texas) accounted for the remainder of their team’s offense with single tallies.  Jeffrey Stark (Sr., Davis, Calif.) took the loss with eight saves.

The loss drops Army into a 13th/15th Place game as the Cadets will wrap-up their participation at the 2018 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship on Saturday, November 10, at 9:50 p.m. against Southeast Division Champion the University of Alabama.  Due to limitations on time and pool space, the 13th-to-16th Place positions are not played out.  Rather, the victors and losers of two consolation games which would set the matchups for both games are officially tied in the final tournament standings.
