SANTA CLARA, Calif. — No. 25-ranked Brown University split the first day of the Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara University by falling to No. 19 San Jose State University, 9-8, prior to besting the host Broncos, 16-5.
Against San Jose State, Ava Schoening led the Bears in scoring, netting half of the Bears’ eight goals by the time the final whistle blew. Ella Palmer, Aubrie Anderson and Madeleine Poissonnier accounted for the remaining four.
On the defensive end, Somto Okafo recorded five saves.
The Bears bounced back in a big way in their second game of the day, securing the win over Santa Clara by an 11-point-margin.
Scoring was uncontested in the first and third quarter, at 3-0 and 5-0 respectively. Sofia Holman led the way throughout the game with five goals, followed by Claire Poissonnier with three. Palmer and Schoening logged two apiece, and goals from Gaby Montalvo, Madeleine Poissonnier, Hana Homma, and Anderson helped round out the score at 16 to Santa Clara’s five.
Roxanne Hazuka showed out on the defensive end as well, with seven saves.
