LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The No. 4-ranked Princeton University men’s Water polo team earned a split at the University of Southern California’s Uytengsu Aquatics Center during day two of the Overnght/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Invitational.

Taking on No. 4 Stanford University, Princeton fell behind early as the Cardinal scored three of the first goals before a tally from Mason Killion with 46 seconds to go to made it a one-score contest after eight minutes.

The two team exchanged goals prior to Stanford snagging three consecutive tallies to extend its lead to 7-3 entering halftime. Princeton got within three in the second half, but Stanford countered with another 3-0 run to go up five, 11-6, with 3:32 remaining to put the game away.

Princeton had six different goal scorers in the loss.

Against Long Beach State, Roko Pozaric‘s tally gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead after the first quarter before the Beach ripped off three straight to hold a 4-2 advantage. Tigran Sennett’s strike with 13 seconds left in the first half got the Tigers within one at 4-3.

The two teams went back and forth with goals before two tallies from Vladan Mitrovc eventually tied the game at five-all as the clock ticked near three minutes remaining in the third stanza. Isaac Rotenberg and Finn LeSieur gave Princeton a 7-5 lead but a tally from Long Beach State right before the fourth frame got started.

Logan McCarroll and Killion opened the scoring in the fourth quarter, but Long Beach State made one more push with two consecutive goals. The No. 10 team in the country had one more possession in the final minute but Yurian Quinones came up with a steal to secure the win.

Mitrovic and Pozaric led the Tigers with two goals each in the win.
