LEWISBURG, Pa. — The No. 5-ranked Princeton University men’s water polo team shot down the United States Air Force Academy, 13-2, and battled host Bucknell University for a 13-7 victory at the 2023 Bucknell Invitational.
Against Air Force, the Tigers scored three of the four goals in the first quarter and led 4-2 by halftime.
The Falcons scored a goal with 6:02 left in the second quarter and were shutout the rest of the way. Princeton scored twice in the third stanza and seven more times in the final frame to collect a 13-2 victory.
Pierce Maloney and Roko Pozaric each had hat tricks, while Kristóf Kovács notched 19 saves in the decision.
William Swart and Vladan Mitrovic added pairs of goals in the win with JP Ohl, George Caras and Gavin Molloy each denting the twine once.
Taking on the host Bison, Princeton started off fast again by running off four of the first five goals and leading 5-2 after eight minutes. The Tigers hardly slowed down in the next frame with the first three tallies and pushed their advantage to six at 9-3 by halftime.
Bucknell could not make a push in the second half as both teams scored twice in the third and fourth stanzas.
Pozaric scored his second hat trick of the game while West Temkin had 12 saves in the win.
Caras and Finn LeSieur put away pairs of shots with Ohl, Logan McCarroll, Maloney, Mitrovic and Molloy accounting for the remainder of Princeton’s offense.
