PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 8-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team had four players score hat tricks in an 18-7 managing of Villanova University.

Kayla Yelensky, Kaila Carroll, Ally Lurie and Shanna Davidson all had three goals each for Princeton in the victory.

Leading 3-2, the Tigers ripped off four straight tallies in the second quarter before holding a 7-3 lead entering halftime.

Princeton’s offense hardly slowed down in the second half, starting with five consecutive goals to push its lead to nine at 12-3. Head coach Derek Ellingson‘s crew led 13-4 after 24 minutes and scored five more times in the fourth quarter to settle with the 18-7 decision.

Meera Burghardt, Kate Mallery, Rachael Carver, Ava Houlahan, Sophie Johnson and Olivia Krotts each chipped in solo markers for Princeton which evens its record at 2-2 on the season. 

Lindsey Lucas stopped six shots to earn the victory, while CJ Weigel added a solo save.

Villanova – which falls to 8-1 on the season – received pairs of goals from Stella Byles and Lauren Short. Tiffany Maguire, Tee Parris, and Anna Painter supplied the rest of the offense. Abigail Shelby and Gracin Kerry split time in goal recording six total saves.
