LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The No. 9-ranked Princeton University men’s water polo team dropped a 17-15 game to No. 12 Pepperdine University at the University of Southern California’s Uytengsu Aquatics Center in the Ninth Place match of the Overnght MPSF Invitational.
Although Princeton got on the board first thanks to a goal from Otto Stothart, Pepperdine went on a four goal run to take the lead. JP Ohl looked to create a spark with a powerplay tally, but the Waves immediately answered and led 6-3 after the first quarter.
Princeton was able to cut the lead to two going into the halftime break with goals from Taylor Bell, Finn LeSieur and Enrique Nuño.
LeSieur was the highlight of the contest for the Tigers, contributing five second half goals in Princeton’s comeback attempt. LeSieur was able to tie things up at 13-al in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers were unable to overcome defensive struggles in falling by a pair at 17-15.
LeSieur led the Tigers in scoring with six goals, matching his career high set previously this season. Bell and Logan McCarroll tacked on pairs of markers with Nuño, Ohl, Ádám Peocz and Stothart chipping in solo strikes.
