ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s water polo team fell to Division III No. 3-ranked Austin College, 17-4, and Gannon University, 15-4, at home in the Junker Center.

The Lions, who picked up a game against fellow Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III institution on the evening of Friday, March 26, due to Washington & Jefferson College’s inability to compete over the remainder of the weekend, battled the nationally ranked Kangaroos before falling by a 17-4 final count.

Penn State Behrend fell behind 5-1 after the first period and trailed 12-3 by halftime as the ‘Roos jumped out to an early margin and never looked back.

Shannon Young (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) scored three of her team;s four goals, while Hope Nuzback (Erie, Pa./McDowell) tallied one goal and one assist.  Brooklynn Mocny (Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead) chipped in two assists to account for the remainder of the Lions’ offense against Austin.

Chloe Dodgen (Riverside, Calif./Hillcrest) registered 10 saves to take the loss.

The ‘Roos were led by five goals from Sophie Oliver Valery Piachonkina received the win in net with seven saves

Facing crosstown foe Gannon of the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) in the Lions’ nightcap, Penn State Behrend scored once in each quarter as the squad suffered a 15-14 loss to the Golden Knights.

Angela Laier (Lansing, Mich./Holt) scored twice with Young and Mocny each contributing one strike.

Dodgen played another complete game, tallying six saves and two steals

Julia Kreidinger and Nicole Wiemken led Gannon with three goals each.
