BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Princeton University’s Emese Batizi (So., Budapest, Hungary/Szent István Gimnázium) and Hungary were unable to hang with Greece as the Hungarians suffered a 15-11 loss in Group B on the third day of competition at the 2025 World Aquatics Women’s U20 Water Polo Championships in Salvador, Brazil.
Batizi, who shot one-for-two on action shots in an 11-10 opening game loss to the United States of America on Sunday, August 10, and converted one-of-two shots as Hungary took a 9-8 setback versus Italy on Monday, August 11, did not factor on the offensive end in the Hungarians third loss in as many games.
The Greeks hammered their way out to commanding 6-1 and 10-4 leads at the conclusion of the first and second quarters, respectively, prior to staving off a Hungary comeback try in the second half to claim a four goal win.
Hungary, which finishes fourth in Group B behind the United States, Greece and Italy, will return to the water at 4:00 p.m. local/3:00 p.m. Eastern in a crossover game against Group D champion Australia on Wednesday, August 13. The victor of the game earns a quarterfinal matchup against Group A champion Spain at 5:30 p.m. local/4:30 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, August 14.

Batizi is making her sixth appearance on the international stage after earning roster spots on Hungary’s U14 (2018-19), U15 (2019-20), U17 (2021-22) and U19 (2023-24) teams.
During her inaugural season at Princeton, Batizi appeared in 25 games, recording 26 goals, 25 assists and 22 steals as the Tigers finished the season as the runner-up at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship.
