BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Southern California remains the No. 1 team in the country as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 9/October 31 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NEWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Polls for the 2018 season.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, which captured the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title, remains at No. 1 in the Division III Poll, while Bucknell University remains a lock in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five.  Harvard University breaks out of a three-way at No. 1 in the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five from last week to acquire sole possession of the spot on All Hallows’ Eve.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the MAWPC, NEWPC, Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2018 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 9/October 31)

The University of Southern California does the “Time Warp Again” as the Trojans remain the No. 1 selection in the 2018 Week 9/October 31 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

USC (100 points) is out in front of a National Top 20 poll which experiences changes from near the top to the final positions.

Stanford University (95 points) holds on at No. 2, while the University of California (90 points) and the University of California-Los Angeles (86 points) exchange the No. 3 and 4 positions.

University of the Pacific (80 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (75 points), Pepperdine University (71 points), Long Beach State University (63 points), the University of California-Davis (61 points), the University of California-San Diego (55 points), the University of California-Irvine (52 points) and California Baptist University (43 points) remain at No. 5-to-12, respectively.

Harvard University (37 points) begins the largest area of change in the National Top 20 Poll as the Crimson rise two positions to No. 13, while Santa Clara University (26 points), Loyola Marymount University (25 points) and Bucknell University (24 points) also move up to take over at No. 14-to-16.

Princeton University (22 points) slides to No. 17 with St. Francis College Brooklyn (16 points) cracking the Top 20 at No. 18.

Brown University (13 points) and San Jose State University (10 points) complete the Top 20.

2018 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 9/October 31)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges continues as the predator of the small college ranks as the Sagehens retain the No. 1 position in the Week 9/October 31 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points) leads a Top 10 which experiences significant changes throughout the rankings as five teams receive new positions this week.

Chapman University (92 points) stays at No. 2, while Whittier College (89 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (84 points) trade the No. 3 and 4 slots.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (80 points) remains alive at No. 5 with California Lutheran University (76 points) moving up to No. 6.

The University of Redlands (73 points) and Johns Hopkins University (66 points) back-up to No. 7 and 8, respectively, with the University of La Verne (60 points) and Occidental College (56 points) remaining at No. 9 and 10.

2018 Men’s Varsity Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 9/October 31)

Bucknell University remains the monster of the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) as the Bison are again a unanimous No. 1 selection in the Week 9/October 31 MAWPC Top Five Poll.

The 2016 MAWPC Champion, Bucknell (100 points) leads a Top Five which experiences a shifting of three teams as  George Washington University (95 points) sticks at No. 2.

Behind the Bison and Colonials, the United States Naval Academy (84 points) rises from the depths to take over No. 3, while Wagner College (84 points) and Fordham University (83 points) fall and rise and to assume the No. 4 and 5 positions.

The MAWPC features 14 teams as Bucknell, George Washington, Wagner, Johns Hopkins, Navy, Fordham and La Salle University make-up the Eastern Region, with Gannon University, Mercyhurst University, Monmouth College, Salem University, Washington & Jefferson College, Connecticut College and McKendree University competing in the Western Region.

2018 Men’s Varsity Northeast Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 9/October 31)

The scourge of the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five remains the 2016 and 2017 NWPC Champion Crimson of Harvard University as the team breaks out of a three-way tie for the No. 1 spot in the Week 8/October 24 NWPC Top Five Poll to assume sole custody of the spot in the Week 9/October 31 voting.

Harvard (100 points), which is once again a unanimous top pick, is followed by the Terriers of St. Francis College Brooklyn (91 points) as the canines move up two places to take over at No. 2.

Previously No. 1-ranked Brown University (90 points) and Princeton University (89 points) follow close behind as the Bears and Tigers fall to No. 3 and 4, respectively.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (80 points) wraps-up the NWPC Top Five as the Engineers retain the No. 5 berth.
