BRIDGEPORT, Pa. —  Former George Washington University men’s water polo standout Theodoros Pateros returns to Washington, D.C., as the former Revolutionaries’ athlete joins the staff of head coach Barry King as an assistant coach.

A former athlete at Long Beach State University (2018-2021) prior to completing a post-graduate season at GW in 2022, Pateros garnered All-Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) and MAWPC Championship tournament First Team honors last year.  A 2022 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-America Honorable Mention selection, he posted 120 goals, 19 assists, 15 steals, 51 ejections drawn and five blocks for George Washington.

His 120 goals rank second on GW’s all-time single-season goals list, while his 139 points are tied for fifth on the all-time single-season points list.

Prior to his arrival in the nation’s capital, he netted 93 goals across 75 games over three seasons at Long Beach State.  He aided LBSU in reaching the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship tournament in 2018 and 2021.  He scored a then career-high 40 goals as a senior in 2021 on way to Gold Coast Conference (GCC) title and berth in national tournament, while also collecting GCC All-Tournament honors as a rookie in 2018 to help Long Beach claim another league crown. 

A native of Glyfada, Greece, he helped the Greek National Team to the 2018 Youth World Championship in Hungary.  Further, he  represented Greece at the 2017 Junior European Championship and Mediterranean Cup in 2017. A member of the Olympiacos, Ydraikos Nautical Club and Glyfada Nautical Club teams, he assisted the Vouliagmeni Nautical Club to the Greek National Cup title in 2017 following junior national titles in 2016 and 2015.
