WASHINGTON, Pa. — Washington & Jefferson College Director of Athletics Scott McGuinness has been appointed a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Management Council. His term, which begins immediately, continues through the close of the January 2023 NCAA Convention.
The NCAA Management Council reports directly to the Presidents Council and handles the implementation of policies adopted by the Association’s Board of Governors and Division III Presidents Council. The Management Council may sponsor legislative proposals; make interpretations of Division III’s bylaws; and may also handle resolution of Division III issues and recommendations from other committees and working groups throughout the Division’s substructure.
The NCAA Division III Management Council consists of 21 members including athletic directors, presidents, vice presidents, conference commissioners, faculty athletics representatives and members of campus student-athlete advisory committees (SAAC).
The 2010, 2011 and 2014 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Division III Sports Information Director (SID) of the Year, McGuinness has worked as the director of athletics since 2014 after spending 13 years as the Presidents’ SID. W&J has won 14 conference championships during his tenure as AD. McGuinness helped Washington & Jefferson secure hosting rights of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regionals at Ross Memorial Park. The 2017 regional was won by W&J as the Presidents led the nation with 42 wins and advanced to the national championship game. He initiated W&J’s successful nomination of Charles “Pruner” West’s election into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame (2018) and also recently ushered in Washington & Jefferson’s first exclusive apparel and footwear deal with Nike and BSN Sports.
As a part of his duties on Management Council, McGuinness will also serve on the Subcommittee for Legislative Relief (DIII), the Convention-Planning Subcommittee and the LGBTQ Working Group. His past NCAA committee works includes the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf East Regional Advisory Committee (2014-2016) and the NCAA Division III Athletic Direct Report (ADR) Institute Planning Committee (2016, 2017).
The Monroeville, Pa., native is graduate of Shippensburg University where he earned a degree in communications.
