NEWBERG, Ore. — Michael DiLascia (Fr., Greenwich, Conn.) and Thomas MacDonald (So., Grand Haven, Mich.) combined for 12 goals as Southeast Division Champion the University of Alabama completed the three-day, 30-game 2022 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by Oregon State University at the Chehalem Aquatic and Fitness Center by topping No. 5-ranked/Texas Division the University of Texas, 18-13, to take 11th Place.
Alabama – which previously tied for 15th (2017, 2018, 2019) and 13th (2021) Place in four prior trips to the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship – garners the program’s all-time best mark at the event courtesy its defeat of the Longhorns.
Texas finishes 12th in the final 16-team standings as the squad adds to a history that includes prior runner-up (2010, 2017), Third (2012), Fifth (2019), Sixth (2014, 2018), Eighth (2013, 2015) and Ninth (2021) Place marks.
Trailing 5-4 after the first quarter, Alabama turned the tides on Texas in the second quarter by outscoring the Longhorns 4-1 to acquire an 8-6 by halftime. After both teams posted five goals in the third quarter to make it 13-11 heading into the final seven minutes, Alabama closed out the game with a 5-2 surge to take the 18-13 victory.
DiLascia (seven) and MacDonald (five) accounted for the majority of the Crimson Tide’s offense. Colin Szczensy (Sr., Aurora, Ill.) and Brian Kent (Jr., Marietta, Georgia) deposited pairs with solo markers coming from Ryan Karadayi (Fr., Tomball, Texas) and Chase McClure (Sr., Naperville, Ill.).
In cage, Ethan Stout (Fr., Irvine, Calif.) notched five stops to claim the win for Alabama. Ben Thomas (Fr., Eugene, Ore.) took the loss for Texas with seven saves.
For the Longhorns, Joe Lofgren (Sr., Plano, Texas) scored four times with Mark Weisberg (Jr., Plano, Texas) and Zachary de Haaff (Jr., Menlo Park, Calif.) both denting the twine three times. Tyler Barber (Fr., Houston, Texas) and Evan Sayer (Jr., Austin, Texas) completed Texas’ scoring with single tallies.
