Due to using an illegal player during the event, Rocky Mountain Division Champion the University of Utah officially forfeits its games at the 2017 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship held at the University of Pittsburgh’s Joe C. Trees Pool on Friday-Sunday, May 5-7.
Due to the decision, Utah’s 7-4 loss to Dartmouth College and 9-5 defeat by Pennsylvania state University are officially recorded as 5-0 forfeits. Further, the Utes 11-1 victory over Washington University in St. Louis is changed to a 5-0 Forfeit as well resulting in Washington tying for 13th place with the University of Virginia and Utah tying for 15th place with Columbia University.
The change comes about as one of the Utah players is a staff member at the institution and did not appear in 50% of her team’s regular season games.
Questions regarding the policy and decision can be forwarded to Assistant Commissioner Tom Tracey at tracey@collegiatewaterpolo.org.
