LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Wagner College men’s water polo team split the final day of competition at the Bison Invitational, hosted by Bucknell University.

The Seahawks dropped a tightly contested match against No. 20-ranked Fordham University, 15-11, in Mid-Atlantic WateR Polo Conference (MAWPC)-East Region competition before earning a 17-5 triumph over Mercyhurst University to close play.  Wagner finished the weekend 3-1 and moves to 1-1 in MAWPC play.

Facing Fordham in league action to open Sunday’s slew of games, the Seahawks played to a three-all stalemate by the end of the first quarter.  Fordham outscored the Green & White, 5-2, in the second quarter to build a 7-5 advantage heading into the break. The Rams put a close to the match after outscoring the Seahawks, 8-6, over the final two frames to earn the four-goal victory.

Wagner junior netminder Ethan ZIrh made 10 saves, while sophomore Zsombor Gyemant powered the Seahawks’ attack with four goals and adding three assists.  Junior Oliver Fodor netted a hat trick in the loss and also drew eight exclusions while fifth-year Jack Leighton won four sprints.

In Wagner’s weekend concluding game versus Mercyhurst, the Seahawks built a 5-0 lead over the Lakers and never looked back. Wagner continued to build up its lead, outscoring Mercyhurst, 11-2, in building a 17-2 advantage late before the Lakers tacked on a trio of scores late in the contest.

Fodor led the way for the Seahawks, netting six goals while newcomer Kyle Chambers posted his first career hat trick in the victory. Kevin Roach made his fourth appearance in goal for the Green & White by closing out the game for Zirh.

Freshman Angelo Zania won two sprints while adding a goal and two assists. Sophomore Ryan Lanier chipped in with a pair of goals on a trio of shot attempts.
