BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former Hartwick College women’s water polo standout Dr. Aliria Muñoz Rascón has been active in health care since her playing career came to a conclusion as teaches at the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University (ASU).

A native of South Salt Lake, Utah, who started playing water polo at the age of 13, she helped Hartwick compile an 111-40 record – including Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championships in 2004 (33-10), 2006 (28-11) and 2007 (32-10) – during the period of 2004-to-2007.  Further, Hartwick finished Fourth (2004), Sixth (2006) and Seventh (2007) at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

She has been at the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation since 2013 where she has instructed didactic, experiential, and clinical courses including Health and Illness III, Evidence Based Practice, Complex Care, and Professional Development. She also serves as Assistant Director of the Edson Global Health Collaboratory.

During her time at ASU, she has served as co-director of Edson’s Veterans Affairs Nursing Academic Partnership and as originator and faculty director of the college’s first study abroad program to Peru during 2016 and 2017.

Dr. Rascón received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Spanish from Hartwick in 2007 and completed her Masters of Science in Nursing Education at ASU in 2012. Dr. Rascón practiced nursing in Kingston, Jamaica, Oaxaca, Mexico, Cusco, Peru, The Solomon Islands, and in a free mobile health clinic in the Phoenix valley of Arizona. Her clinical nursing experience includes work in oncology, medical-surgical, telemetry, medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and trauma ICU. Dr. Rascón completed her PhD in Nursing at the University of Arizona where she studied experiences of grandmothers of Mexican descent managing type 2 diabetes in the context of caring for a grandchild.
