CLAREMONT, Calif. — Haley Wan scored a career-high five goals as the No. 11-ranked Princeton University Tigers defeated the Division III No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens, 11-6, at the Haldeman Pool.
Wan contributed six points, while Chelsea Johnson and Eliza Britt had multi-goal games. Charlotte Valentine and Lindsey Kelleher also scored in the victory. Ashleigh Johnson stopped 15 shots in net.
With Princeton in front by two goals, Pomona-Pitzer got on the board with 3:03 to go in the first quarter. The Tigers held the Sagehens scoreless for the next seven minutes and 32 seconds and went into halftime with a 7-2 lead. Wan scored two goals within 33 seconds of each other to end the first half, giving her four straight hat tricks.
Pomona-Pitzer got as close as four on a tally from Morgan McCracken with 6:06 remaining in the game, but the Tigers amassed three consecutive goals to put the game out of reach.
Princeton scored on half of their shot attempts (22) and went two-for-eight on power plays. The Tigers held the Sagehens without a man-up goal in nine tries. Head coach Luis Nicolao‘s team improved to 15-1 this season, while Pomona-Pitzer fell to 7-15 overall.
