BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Lena Kotanchyan (Fr., Moscow, Russia/Elk Island School #368) scored seven times over the span of three games at the 2017 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship on the campus of Indiana University to claim Rookie of the Tournament recognition and earn the May 1 CWPA Division I Rookie of the Week award.
Competing at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Indiana, the 2017 CWPA Rookie of the Year opened the weekend for the No. 13-ranked Hawks by racking up a hat-trick in an 11-6 defeat of Brown University. Following a goal in an 8-7 loss to No. 10 Princeton University, she wrapped up the championship in the Third Place game by netting her second hat-trick in a 10-7 victory over No. 16 Harvard University.
The award marks her fourth Rookie of the Week selection of the season after previously earning nods on February 6, March 6 and April 17.
