INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Water Polo Committee announced today the seven teams vying for the 2021 National Collegiate Men’s Water Polo Championship. The top two seeds have been placed in the bracket; the remaining five teams will compete for the last two berths in the bracket via three opening-round games. The opening-round games will be contested November 27, hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, N.J., and December 2, hosted by the University of California-Los Angeles in Los Angeles, Calif. UCLA will also host the championship semifinals and championship game on Saturday-Sunday, December 4-5 at home in the Speiker Aquatics Center. The semifinals and final will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
In the first opening-round game, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion Princeton (25-7) will host Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Fordham (24-6). The winner will advance to the second opening-round game to play Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Champion UCLA (19-3), with the winner advancing to the championship bracket to play MPSF Fourth Place finisher the University of California (20-4) at UCLA. In the third opening-round game, Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Champion Long Beach State University (22-5) will play Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Champion the University of California-Davis (18-8), with the winner advancing to the championship bracket to play the MPSF Third Place finisher the University of Southern California (17-2). Game times for the opening-round games are listed on the bracket. Game times for the semifinals are 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Eastern/2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Pacific on Saturday, December 4, and the championship game will be played at 5:00 p.m. Eastern/2:00 p.m. Pacific on Sunday, December 5.
Conferences receiving automatic qualification included the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference, Golden Coast Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, Northeast Water Polo Conference and the Western Water Polo Association. The remaining two teams were selected at-large without geographical restrictions.
