KENOSHA, Wis. — The Division III No. 7-ranked Macalester College water polo team visited the Koenitzer Aquatic Center today for their last non-conference game before Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) play begins in March. In the evening duel against league rival Carthage College in a non-conference showdown, the Scots prevailed 10-7. Macalester moves to 3-2 on the season, while the Firebirds drop to 2-13.

After both teams went scoreless for the first 4:30, the Scots broke the seal with a goal from junior Alana Nadolski (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood). Senior Elizabeth Matlin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) dropped in the next tally. Though the Firebirds notched their first goal shortly after,  first year Anna Gaisser (Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) closed the quarter with a buzzer-beater to give Macalester a 3-1 advantage to end the opening frame.

Though the Scots allowed Carthage to tie the game in the second quarter, they closed the door in the second half. Nadolski notched another goal in each of the remaining quarters to bring her total to three scores on the evening. The Firebirds pulled within two points with just over two minutes to play. However, Carthage missed its final two shot attempts and junior Jess Palmer-Sammons (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Half Moon Bay) sank the dagger with 38 seconds remaining to permit Macalester to claim a three score victory.

Gaisser and senior Kendall Coney (League City, Texas/Clear Creek) each tallied two goals of their own on the game, in addition to a hat-trick from Nadolski.
