SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The No. 5-ranked Fordham University water polo team faced off against No. 3 Stanford University and came up short by a 19-10 count at Santa Clara University’s Sullivan Aquatic Center during the second day of the 2025 Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
Fordham falls to 14-3 on the year, while Stanford improves to 12-4,
The Rams opened the scoring with a marker by Luca Silvestri, but Stanford answered with the final four tallies of the opening eight minutes for a 4-1 lead.
The Cardinal had a big second quarter with seven goals, increasing the lead to 11-6 entering halftime.
Stanford pulled away in the second half, netting five goals in the third quarter and three in the fourth for a 19-10 victory
Stanford’s Gianpiero Di Martire and Botond Balogh each scored five goals in the match with Ben Forer adding four.
Fordham was led by Luca Provenziani, who had three goals and an assist.
Other goal scorers for Fordham were Silvestri, Balazs Berenyi, Andras Toth, Mark Dyck, Barnabas Eppel, Gianni Farrugia and Alessandro Salipante.
In net, Matthew Bonello DuPuis totaled seven saves in just under three quarters of work with Kristof Magony finishing the game and recording two saves.
