BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) has distributed MaxQuall Professional officiating headsets to 24 referees during the Fall 2023 season to improve the quality of communication during games.
Due to the need for officials to communicate with one another effectively and efficiently from across the pool, the headsets provided will help aid the league’s officiating corps in performing to the best of their ability during a game. The equipment allows the pair of officials – as well as a referee evaluator if present – to communicate calls and provide direction for handling front court and back court while maintaining consistency throughout the duration of a game.
Referees are what make games run and water polo cannot be played without them. They ensure that rules are being followed without degrading the competitiveness of a match. During a game, the goal is for referees to be on the same page, to make calls that they agree on and to keep the game moving forward, which is hard to do on a loud action-packed pool deck. Due to the use of headset, the momentum of a game is maintained as officials are able to communicate from across the pool to provide a better experience for coaches, the athletes and the fans.
The new headsets will help referees communicate valuable information without having to pause the game. They will allow officials to achieve optimal performance during the game which benefits all parties.
