BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2018 Women’s Varsity Week 18/May 16/Final National Top 25 Poll in the wake of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship hosted and claimed by the University of Southern California.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the weekly polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2018 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 18/Final)
The University of Southern California concludes the year at No. 1 in the the Week 18/May 16/Final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.
USC (100 points), which captured the 2018 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship at home on Sunday, May 13, via a 5-4 victory over Stanford University, ends the season at No. 1 in the nation.
The first 11 positions in the final National Top 25 remain the same as the Week 16/May 2 and Week 17/May 9 polls as Stanford (96 points), the University of California (92 points), the University of California-Los Angeles (88 points), Arizona State University (81 points), the University of the Pacific (80 points), the University of Hawaii (75 points), the University of California-Irvine (74 points), the University of Michigan (69 points), the University of California-Davis (62 points) and Princeton University (59 points) retain their previous spots.
Long Beach State University (51 points) and Hartwick College (51 points), which were tied at No. 13 the past two weeks, rise to tie again at No. 12 with Wagner College (47 points) taking over at No. 14 and Indiana University (45 points) remaining at No. 15.
The University of California-San Diego (43 points) and Loyola Marymount University (40 points) back-up to No. 16 and 17, respectively, while the University of California-Santa Barbara (27 points) hangs on at No. 18.
California State University-Northridge (24 points), San Diego State University (23 points), San Jose State University (20 points), Bucknell University (16 points), Marist College (10 points), Brown University (9 points) and California Baptist University (8 points) close out the Top 25 at No. 19-to-25.
