BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the session outline and session recording from Session I of the Fall 2018 CWPA Referee Online Education Series.

Session I was held on Thursday, September 27, and provided education on “Applying the Rules as Written; Professionalism”.


Session 1: Applying the Rules as Written (Length – 57:22)


Conducted on Thursday nights from 9:30-10:30 p.m. Eastern/6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Pacific via conference call and video clips, future sessions will cover:

  • Session 2 (Thursday, October 4) – Applying the Advantage Rule; Administrative Responsibilities & Working with the Desk
  • Session 3 (Thursday, October 11) – Ordinary Fouls on the Perimeter & at the Center Forward Position; Communication with Coaches
  • Session 4 (Thursday, October 18) – Perimeter Play, Exclusions & Offensive Fouls
  • Session 5 (Thursday, October 25) – Center Forward Play, Exclusions & Offensive Fouls
  • Session 6 (Thursday, November 1) – Transition Stages from Initial to Final Stages; What to Look for & Referee Collaboration
  • Session 7 (Thursday, November 8) – Special Game Situations (MAMs, Misconduct, Flagrant Misconduct); Unusual Game Situations
  • Session 8 (Thursday, December 13) – Season Wrap-Up; Feedback

Officials who seek to be assigned for future assignments by the CWPA in either the varsity (Men – Northeast Water Polo Conference, Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference; Women – CWPA, CWPA Division III Women, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) or collegiate club (men’s/women’s) ranks must attend four-of-eight sessions.
