INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Council Coordination Committee extended the recruiting dead period until at least June 30 for all Division I sports.
On May 27, the committee will review whether the date should be extended, continuing to be guided by medical experts.
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches recommended the dead period be extended in those sports through July 31.
The coordination committee reviewed those recommendations and committed to an additional review on a dead period extension to July 31 during its May 27 call.
The committee also approved a process for schools that seek individual waivers of minimum sport sponsorship requirements. The Division I Council declined to provide a blanket waiver for Division I members on the requirement.
All waiver requests must be submitted electronically through the Request/Self-Report Online application available to NCAA members and must include explicit approval from the school’s chancellor or president.
The Division I Strategic Vision and Planning Committee will review any requests and provide a recommendation to the Council, which will make a final decision on the individual waiver. If the school is a Football Bowl Subdivision School, only those members of the Council will vote. A smaller subset of the Council (such as the Council Coordination Committee) may be designated to vote on waiver requests.
The Council’s decision is final; no appeal opportunity is available.
