BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalkeeper Matt Taylor (Gr., Auckland, New Zealand/Rangitoto College) went 3-0 with 30 saves and 16 goals allowed for a .652 save percentage in leading the No. 15-ranked George Washington University men’s water polo team during the opening weekend of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-East Region competition.  For his performance in cage, Taylor is named the September 30 MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week.

Now a four-time weekly honor recipient with MAWPC Player and Defensive Player of the Week nods on October 10, 2016 after taking home September 7, 2015 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Defensive Player of the Week status (prior to the creation of the MAWPC and Northeast Water Polo Conference before the 2016 season), Taylor anchored the Colonials to road defeats of Fordham University (9-8 W), Wagner College (14-8 W) and La Salle University (19-6 W) in the Bronx (N.Y.), Staten Island (N.Y.) and Philadelphia (Pa.), respectively.

He posted 11 saves with an assist and a steal in helping GW edge Fordham on Saturday, September 28, prior to traveling into another of the five boroughs to make nine saves in dispatching Wagner.

On Sunday, September 29, he wrapped up his weekend by posting 10 saves with four goals allowed in taking down La Salle.
